This alert is about a new computer flaw, identified by Microsoft as CVE-2019-0708, that affects some older versions of Microsoft Windows. The flaw could affect your own computer systems or your clients’.
Vulnerable systems at risk include Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, Windows 2003, and Windows XP. The flaw is believed to potentially affect more than one million devices.
If you or your clients use any of these operating systems, the vulnerability may pose a significant risk to computer systems. The vulnerability could propagate from computer to computer by replicating copies of itself with no need for a host program or human interaction. A good example of a similar vulnerability is the WannaCry malware that spread across the globe in 2017, infecting more than 200,000 computers in a couple of days.
Recommended action
Microsoft has released an update that fixes the vulnerability and strongly advises updating all affected systems as soon as possible.
